Pakistani Cinema has come a long way since it released the brilliantly produced Khud Ke Liye. The companies have been churning out admirable pieces on a conveyor belt since then. The affliction of Cinephilia attains its peak around Eid season and to quench this thirst, our film industry starts working extra hard to ensure the fulfillment of the Pakistani cinephiles.
Following this trend, the production duo of Adnan Siddiqui and Akhtar Hasnain had set a landmark for themselves, aiming to release a blockbuster DUM MASTAM this Eid-ul-Fitr. The movie in question is, of course, the heavy star-studded, Dum Mastam, with the likes of Amar Khan and Imran Ashraf under its banner.
Recently, Cereal Entertainment released the much-anticipated trailer of their debut production “Dum Mastam ~ Follow your own rhythm”.
The much-anticipated trailer launch ceremony, organized in the metropolitan was a star-studded affair and in attendance were the crème de la crème of Pakistan’s entertainment industry, including the film’s cast and crew, Imran Ashraf, Amar Khan, Muhammad Ehteshamuddin, Adnan Siddiqui, Akhtar Hasnain, and Ushna Shah, Humayun Saeed, Nadeem Baig, Sanam Saeed, Mohib Mirza, Bilal Ashraf, Bilal Maqsood, Sonia Hussain, Agha Mustafa, Vasay Chaudhry, Yasir Nawaz, Nida Yasir, Wajahat Rauf, Shazia Wajahat and many others.
The movie is not your average run-of-the-mill love story but as portrayed by the trailer, is the development of two highly dynamic characters, something a lot of movies in the past lacked. It appears to revolve around two characters, Aliya and Bao.
Aliya is a typical girl-next-door and is further developed through the trailer, as a lover of dance and music. We see her at dance practices and even frolicking around her bedroom dressed as a 70s American pop star complete with a blond wig.
The other pillar of the film is, Bao. This guy is your average lout with a devil-may-care attitude and an immense love for singing who we witness developed into a massive stoic music sensation.
“Dum Mastam is romantic-comedy with love, emotions, songs, and masala. It has everything that the audience wants to see”, were the words used by Adnan Siddiqui to define his “Baby”,
The trailer definitely was a rollercoaster of a ride and not only introduced the characters but also showed tidbits of what awaits us in the movie. Some awe-inspiring scenes included; a trapeze dance number in a grey-toned set. A soulful solo song in a well-lit studio shed. A controversy. A karmic shift. A transformation. Hurt and heartache. Aspirations. These are pretty daring moves but the rewards would be well worth it should they manage to hit all the right places.
The movie is undoubtedly the hottest thing on the scene in 2022 and we certainly hope the movie is as dynamic as the trailer. The debut movie is set to be released on Eid-ul-Fitr. The success of this tent pole would cement the position of Muhammad Ehtesham as the top director and Amar Khan as a valuable screenwriter in the film industry and might bring us more of their dynamic works in the future.
