The day the biopic of India’s 83 world cup victory was announced it has been considered an underdog movie. Some cricket fans called it a desperate attempt to pull crowds to the cinema. Some acclaimed that the Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone are cast to Hype and misguide the fans to assume it will be a good film.
But the ode to India’s first World Cup is emotional, strong, nostalgic, and takes anyone down the era when Kapil Dev bought home the gold.
Ranveer Singh under Kabir Khan’s Wing makes a convincing Kapil Dev, with Deepika just in the shadows the film is all Singh’s performance. The blood, sweat, and tears are all real to any Indian cricket fan. The feelings are there and what makes the film a superb biopic are the little details.
The film in the first half is slow but picks the pace after the interval. The dialogues are good but could have been stronger. But overall the screenplay is done brilliantly.
It can be easily termed as one of the finest Bollywood films of the year. You don’t want to miss this one!
We rate it 4 out of 5!
