Makeup artist Nabila and Model Zara Abid are receiving a lot of flak because of their recent campaign which darkens the skin tone of already beautifully tanned model Zara Abid. Twitterati took it upon itself to school both, saying that this is sheer racism and completely inappropriate.
Abid then took to Instagram to clarify her stance saying that models are usually made to look fairer and nobody says a work hence darkening the color shouldn’t have been a problem but somehow it is which is appalling.
ZARA ABID Wrote On her Instagram handle
I think we as a society suffer from deep-set colonial mentality hence our love for looking fair and fairness creams. People don’t like it when they see duskier complexions and this is exactly what has happened. I don’t see a lot of people campaigning against fairness creams which they should totally do. I think its time we accept models with their diverse tan skin tones because Pakistan is beautifully colored. We have fair to olive to chocolate, almost every color and it should be a cause for celebration.
BROWN IS BEAUTIFUL, DARK IS DIVINE AND ALL COMPLEXIONS ARE EQUALLY STUNNING.
SHAME ON YOU GUYS FOR SHUNNING THESE DARK SKINNED BEAUTIES.
More power to Nabila and Zara. I hope we see more diversity in the modeling industry and those makeup artists shouldn’t have too dark skin tones in order to display a medley of different colors.
