Fashion Pakistan Week (FPWF19) Autumn/Winter session opens up a new bag of questions last night. The once glorified fashion week of Pakistan on an opening day not only fails to impress critics and media but falls short in each aspect.
The collections lacked the oomph one expects from fashion week collections, they all seem to be put together half-heartedly. But what is more disappointing is that each collection has a showstopper but none utilizes them.
Paying heaps to a celebrity to close the show for a designer isn’t easy, but not acing that moment is terribly a disaster. FPWF19 has opened day one with good names but none impressively dressed.
1- Ayeza Khan, Muneeb Butt for Al-Karam Studio
So, Winter means Velvet, understanding that. The sundowner collection was not really impressive but we like what Al-Karam studio displayed last night at the ramp. The children looked cute, the pastel shades are summer trends but it seems justified among the floral embroideries or so. The showstopper Muneeb Butt. is a complete no-no.
Nothing is good about his coat sherwani thing and definitely nothing is worse than a piece completely out of the collection. Ayeza Khan walks down the ramp wearing a misfitting dress that did not sink with the collection. The makeup and hair are all out of context and well some good shalwar kameez or flared gown could have been better.
Overall, the collection is nice but Muneeb Butt scores no points while an expected Ayeza Khan loses a few. Having such a limelight celeb and not using it properly is a crime.
2- Saboor Aly For Bohmea By Kanwal
We mean like why! The collection is a typical display of chatapati, reds and dull golden, browns and rainbows. What Saboor Aly walks out in is everything mentioned above. The fitting again, not up to the mark. There is no WOW to it. Saboor barely manages to walk around in it and well not what we expected.
After having Sanum Saeed and Zoe Viccaji closing shows for Boheme By Kanwal in good pieces. This felt like a throwaway collection.
3- Nimra Khan For Gogi by Hassan Riaz
Hasan Riaz’s super colorful collection inspired by French silhouettes and embellishments had us excited. But guess we excited ourselves too much. The collection evolves from green to white base which is kind of disturbing. The collection needs more basic secondary-primary color combinations put together.
Nimra Khan walks down in a simple yet stylish piece from the French collection. The presentation is good, the ruffles are working fine and the hat and cane add some drama to the show. Something in a better cut would have been more fashion worthy though.
4- Sarwat Gillani for Yasmeen Zaman
Another collection that lacks basic color combinations to look like the same. Velvet works but not for Yasmeen Zaman. Sarwat Gillani in a double slit, green Albanian culture-inspired ( GOD KNOWS FROM WHERE!) skirt and jacket impressed no one in the crowd.
We love Yasmeen and Sarwat but this is a miss and it did not make a mark.
5- Fauzia Aman For AFH
A silk yellow bejeweled kaftan style gown with a long thigh-high slit that shows off FOuzia Aman’s lust legs is fashion. She ends the atrocious day one of FPWF19 with a pleasant relief.
It is not extraordinary but above everything we witnessed it is a good piece. Fauzia really dons her walk and is on point.
